Reason for Becoming an

Art Educator

Bunny Jan2019.png

I been teaching young kids ages 10-13 for about 3 years for the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement in Anaheim. It was not until when I volunteering at the University Art Museum's Plugged-In Program in late 2018 that I had a true interest in teaching children. I had a blast in helping 4th graders and visiting other schools in Long Beach and enjoyed making projects at the same time.

I also thought about the AP program for Studio Art back in 2016 when I was a senior in High School; I was frustrated on how the program was set up and disappointed on the way my art teacher taught us. (To be honest, she didn't even seriously teach AP students.) Look even at the whole art program in my high school too; it treated as just arts and crafts and get to do it how ever we want. No, art is not just that. It has meaning. There are reasons why art is made that way, why artists strive to perfect their works, why basics are important, and other aspects of art. I don't want young students to be just artists; I want them to be artists that thinks and create their artwork with care and meaning.

I still want to pursue a career as an illustrator, but if life "hops" me to another direction, I will think about teaching art to other younger students.
